Paranoia in Online Poker Rooms

I’d like to be able to dispel the paranoia that there are many instances of cheating in an online poker room. I think with all of the recent software additions, online poker is safer than ever.
In particular, most people’s reservations when deciding whether or not to play online poker is the threat that there is software out there that allows users to view others hole cards. The only thing I have been able to find, outside of the Tokwiro “superuser” scandals, is a virus that can be put on your computer which allows another user to sign in and use your personal information.. However, you have to somehow access this information and download it to your computer, and from what I’ve read, you’re more susceptible to it you download programs that allow the computer to play for you. Essentially, if you download software to cheat, you’re more likely to get cheated. And you deserve it.
It takes all of the fun out of poker if you have to have a program play for you, and usually this software is easily detected by the poker room, and you could face punitive charges for using them. So I really don’t think it would be worth it.
Aside from this, I’ve found plenty of scam websites, that of course want you to pay for a book or a software that gives you all of this persons’ secrets, when in reality, none of it works, and the promises they make are completely unreasonable.
So I would rest assured, if you’re really feeling uncomfortable about this type of software, that it is very rare, and easily found. If it really bothers you, and you start losing at a table, cut your losses and go. And should you find someone using this software, report it, and get your money back. It’s as simple as that.
