Bad Beat

A Bad Beat Jackpot is probably the most innovative and well received promotion in an online poker room. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played a game over poker, put all of my chips in, riding on a phenomenal hand, only to find it beaten by something even more phenomenal.
In an instance in poker where you are dealt a four of a kind hand, you simply do not assume that anyone will be able to beat that hand. I mean, how many times in your life have you seen a straight flush? Or a Royal Flush? I’ve never seen a Royal Flush.
So it is a relief to know that if you are faced with this sort of situation, the online poker room owners are sympathetic. Of course, it is a royal pain in the butt to qualify for a bad beat jackpot. Because there is so much money at stake, there are obviously a crapload of stipulations, and the whole jackpot doesn’t go to the losing hand. Everyone generally gets a cut of the profits, with the majority going to the bad beat.. but a certain percentage has to go to the next jackpot, as it’s a lot of money to replace, and more importantly, it’s your rake that pays for it.
Just days after the opening of the CEREUS network, where Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker now reside, this guy won an $800,000… on thanksgiving.. talk about a good holiday. I have to admit, I’m a bit jealous. I’ve played my share of online poker tournaments, but I’ve never seen a hand that great.
In the CEREUS network, the jackpot can only be won if it comes down to a showdown, where both players have to use both of their hole cards.
There are certain tables allotted for the bad beat jackpot, so if you want to win it, you need to play in a certain room… and perhaps it’s more likely to get a great hand at these tables.
