The Industry Can Be Unnerving.

I’m just going to throw my opinion out there, and say that Ultimate Bet isn’t doing much to keep its reputation. Not only has it been involved in more than one cheating scandal, but when the second instance was brought to light, UB tried to deny it. It’s not the first or last time that there will be cheating in online poker rooms, and I understand that it is a delicate situation for UB, but it could have been handled better. The thing that really gets me is the statement after statement that they KGC has released about UB and Absolute about how they are doing everything within their power to eliminate the problem. I seem to recall the KGC announcing that it was going to disallow its workers to access hole cards until after the hand has been played.
I don’t mean to be presumptuous here, but I think that would have certainly alleviated the issue. So why is there anything left to be resolved? I think that perhaps there are some shady workings going on with that site. Additionally, with all of the Tiffany Michelle controversy, you’d think UB would want to stay as far away from another scandal as they possibly could. So which member of the site’s management team decided to approach someone who was already sponsored and steal her from an honest company? And for what? They couldn’t wait to sponsor this woman in any other event? She only came in 17th place.
And when you consider that UB is now planning to merge with Absolute in the Cereus poker network, it seems to me that the poker room is trying everything to disassociate with Ultimate Bet’s name. It just makes me uneasy when I think about the industry. The online gambling market is a risky business, and so I don’t feel comforted when a site is everything but honest, no matter how good the bonuses are, or how popular it may be.
At any rate, my preference in online poker is leaning toward PokerStars. UB is going to have to do a lot better than Tiffany Michelle to win me back over.
