I Love This!

I just recently discovered the "Bad Beat Jackpot" that some online poker rooms are offering to their users now. It is probably the greatest thing I have heard of, and yet another reason why online poker kicks live poker's ass.

I can't tell you how many poker nights I've stormed outside to smoke a cigarette and piss and moan about a bad beat so that I don’t rip someone’s head off for beating my full house with a four of a kind and so forth.
So recently someone at PartyPoker has quad 9’s beaten with a royal flush, and so everyone at the table split a million dollars. Now, I myself have never seen a royal flush. In fact, I’ve never seen a straight flush, and so if I have four of a kind, I bet my ass off, because I know I’m not going to lose. I get really pissed over having a full house beaten with a four of a kind, so I couldn’t imagine my reaction if someone beat my four of a kind with a royal flush. I’d probably have a stroke. Or I might trash my poker table. I went through a period of about 6 months where I refused to play poker simply because I couldn’t win a single game for about 10 games in a row. It can be very frustrating, especially if you really are having good luck, and someone else is just having better luck. Imagine for around 3 or 4 months having some beat your straights, flushes and full houses every time. That’s not a tilt, that’s the poker gods giving you the bird.
Needless to say, if I was beaten that horribly and then someone said, here’s almost half a million dollars, I think I wouldn’t mind it so much, and I wouldn’t be deterred from playing again in the near future.
