Washington State Law constitutes
online poker play as Class C Felony. Can you believe this? Here are some other criminal actions that face the same punishments, with up to 40 years in prison and $100,000 in fines. Most sex offenders are given six months probation for a first time offense? Does this seem a little bass-ackwards to anyone else?
- Illegal possession of a firearm
- Possession of child pornography
- Torture of animals
- Second degree statutory rape
- First degree attempted manslaughter
- Second degree attempted kidnapping
- Second degree attempted arson
- First degree attempted assault
- First degree attempted gang assault
- Second degree gang assault
- First degree attempted rape
- First degree attempted sodomy
- First degree attempted aggravated sexual abuse
- Second degree aggravated sexual abuse
- First degree attempted course of sexual condust against a CHILD
- Use of a child in sexual performance

The list goes on. I have to thank those fighting to lifting this ban on internet gaming. I never realized that people felt this strongly against internet gaming. It's insane! I hardly think that you can compare a game of online poker to gang assaults and pedophilia! It is very discomforting to know the degree to which legislators oppose gambling. I knew that there was a moral objection, but it certainly never occurred to me that these are the people gamblers are being compared to. A good game of online poker is rather innocent. All of its players enter the table willingly, prepared to lose some money. Where is the heinous crime in that? It especially baffles me because there are no actual federal laws against internet gaming.
Look at who we are being compared to people! If you still think it's not important to reach out to your local legislators about permitting online gaming, think again! If we continue to sit idly by, we stand a good chance of doing some hard time for our recreational activities.
