Is Poker a Sport?

There is much controversy surrounding this question. Many people believe that poker online or live, does not constitute as such, as it does not require any athletic prowess.

However, Webster's dictionary defines a sport as the following:

Main Entry:
2sport
Function:
noun
Date:
15th century
1 a: a source of diversion : recreation

So, there you have it, folks. Technically, poker can very well be considered a sport. If that's not enough proof for you, well, they broadcast it on ESPN. Additionally, if NASCAR, a bunch of men driving cars in a circle, can be labeled as such, I see no reason why poker can not as well. Albeit that our champions tend to be a bit hefiter, poker requires as much skill as most other athletic activities, although it may not be exerted physically. There is just as much strategy involved in the game as any other American past time. Poker has tournaments, championships, titles and trophies. And hey, Jesusfish can chop a banana in half with a card from twenty feet away. That takes a bit of physical skill, no?
