Poker is More Popular than the Economy!

I have to say, I’m really impressed to find that online poker is so highly searched for on the internet. For the third straight year, it’s the number one most searched word in the Lycos search engine.
Now, as an avid poker lover, even I am astonished to find this. With all that has gone on in the world this year, poker seems to be on most people’s minds.
Isn’t this some sort of sign for government officials that the majority of the public is in love with the game? That is any form of gambling were to be legalized, it should be poker? Especially over horse racing or the lottery, as you actually have CONTROL over the outcome.
For all of the arguments about how evil the game is, it seems most Americans want to play. It has certainly gained popularity over the years, so I certainly can’t imagine the moral majority having an uproar if it was legalized.
But seriously, more people searched for poker than they did say, an economic crisis? A government bailout? A failing auto industry? The fact that gas prices have dropped nearly three dollars?
More than the president, more than celebrity gossip, more than social networking, more than the ongoing war, more than even pornography, internet browsers are concerned with poker!
Am I proud? Hell yes.
And so, Congress, shouldn’t this show you that we are ready to bring back the nation’s favorite pastime? Shouldn’t it concern you that the nation is more interested in a card game than they are your economic budget? Perhaps, if you really want to appease the masses, you’d give us our game back, let us play online, and stop wasting millions in keeping us from it.
And while we’re at it, could we get some money out of the internet while its still there to be had?
