What a Fluke!

I have to admit I am a little jealous of Mr. Olivier Lombard, who took home the final prize from the Titan Poker $2.5 million guaranteed tournament. Not so much jealous of all that money... Okay, yes, I'm jealous of all of that money, but more so at the fact that the man nearly forgot to enter the qualifier to make it to the main event.

It was a total fluke that this guy, who had little to no actual tournament experience, actually won the tournament. This is an instance where I can admit that poker sometimes does involve a great deal of luck.

I'm not saying that the man wasn't a good player, but I can only assume that some of the other players in the tournament who make a living off of playing online poker were just as surprised as I was to see this guy take it all. It goes to show that poker can work for anybody. This is why this game is the American pasttime. It's full of pop culture and excitement and millions of dollars and and and... it's just so awesome.

I have to say, I play more live poker than I do online poker these days. We hold a winner takes all tournament at our apartment every Saturday, and this has been going on for about 3 or 4 months now. I have only lost twice, which makes me feel pretty confident in my strategy, but I also have to succeed that many times my winning had a LOT to do with the luck of the draw. For some, this can be the most frustrating experience, and it may force one to have to take a break from the game all together. But for others like myself, it's a great distraction from the failing economy, the political mishaps, the global warming, and the horrid ass of reality.

Go Olivier Lombard!
