Poker Charity Does More than U.S. Intervention

So when all else fails in Darfur, all eyes turn to poker. Where Charles Barkly, along with many other celebrities, will be going head to head to raise money for the people affected by the genocide in Darfur. Barkly having just paid back his outstanding debts from a gambling problem, is now playing for charity to put his addiction to good use. Now many questions pop into my head after hearing something like this. First off is it wise to trade in one form of gambling addiction for a good cause. My first thought is yes. I mean he’s rich…….to hell with’em. But deeper questions arise from something like this to me. Why after all this time is the responsibility of Darfur falling to the green felt.
President Bush himself slipped and labeled Darfur for what it is, genocide. He later recalled his statements as per republican standard practice. But recall of statements or not, a logical person cannot deny the body count. My big question is why the hell hasn’t this all been fixed yet? Can we honestly say that our money overseas is being best used at the moment?
You know this will most likely spur some new online poker charities as well. Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining about the idea of poker for charity. I’m just saying that this shouldn’t need any more help. A non retarded administration would have cleaned house in Darfur by now. These are warlords we would have to fight. Yet where are the US or UN soldiers? We talk of regime change, yet we can’t handle a territorial clash with some warlords using thirty year old weapons? Guess there isn’t enough oil in the Darfur region. Only millions of lives to save, where’s the profit in that huh? My last judgment on this,
America’s concern for Darfur, -1
Poker, +1 and rising.
