I heard the news yesterday, and I couldn't believe it. It seems that the owners of Ultimate Bet Poker haven't learn their lesson from the whole PotRipper fiasco. I have to wonder to myself, what the heck is the matter with these people? Apparently it never occurred to them until this last incident that perhaps giving the employees of their online poker sites the ability to view hole cards is not such a great idea! This is the new policy that they are implimenting, by the way. Employees of Tokwiro Enterprises will no longer be able to view other players hole cards. Well, that and players won't have the ability to change their usernames, unless they are being harassed in the chatrooms.
What in the world possessed these people to allow that to go on in the first place? Were they able to view hole cards to make sure no one was cheating in the online poker rooms? I suppose that somewhat makes sense, if you happen to be a bit of a bumbling idiot. The employees are able to print out spreadsheets of the entire game, down to the IP addresses, AFTER the game is completed. That should give them sufficient evidence of any skullduggery if they were to suspect someone of cheating. Geez. I don't believe, however, that the company had done this intentionally. Some people think these things, you know. What good would cheating do any of them, when every time this happens, they subsiquently are forced to pay somewhere in the range of $500,000 in fines. On top of this, they have to compensate the players who lost money in the game. In the case of the PotRipper scandal, they paid back upwards of a million dollars to player involved while the tournament itself was only for about 30 grand.
Anyway, its at least comforting to know that this time, they did openly admit to the cheating immediately. They are being held accountable by third party gaming commissions, and in the long run, no harm done.
