The poker gods can be a fickle people – making some online poker players the biggest pros in history, and stealing their success months later.
Sure, poker involved mostly skill, but you cannot deny that there is a certain amount of luck involved – and when the cards are against you, the cards are against you. There’s no bluffing in an online poker room if you NEVER get a good hand.. and it’s quite possible, no matter how many hours it may take, that you can lose all of your money in just blinds.
And so let us discuss the rise and fall of an online poker hero: David Benyamine, one of the most respected online pros out there. It’s not that he has diminished in fame at all, but if you pay attention, he has one of the most sporadic bankrolls out there.
Benyamine was well-known as one of the best high limit PLO players in the world, and a respectable high limit No Limit Hold'em player as well. He destroyed his competition on Full Tilt Poker, however, the past five or six months have not been kind to him. He has lost a majority of high stakes games on Full Tilt (whether or not this can be attributed to his removal from the pro list is unsure), and has dropped even more in this year’s WSOP. The rumor is that he owes other pro players quite a bit of money…even Patrik Antonius. This is not a confirmed truth, just speculation.
What we do know is that it will be some time before he plays a high stakes tourney again. Benyamine either buys in for the minimum over multiple tables, or plays just one table at a time. Recently, Benyamine has dropped down significantly, playing lower limit games in order to build up his bankroll.
We will see whether he can bring his bankroll back up, and hopefully why he has left the pro team at Full Tilt.
