Online poker is in a world of shit, following the most recent court proceedings in Kentucky. I am fairly confident that the state of Kentucky will lose the battle in its attempts to seize all domains for internet poker rooms that service the U.S., but that is not to say that it doesn't scare the crap out of me. Even if the court rules in favor of the opposing legal teams, there's still a very good possibility that this could eventually lead to the end of internet gambling in the U.S.
I don't understand how it is even possible for the state of Kentucky to hold any political clout in this case. First of all, how can you attack a domain name, especially when it operates overseas. And why, when the Governor leading the litigation against these sites has personally admitted that he is trying to protect the revenue of online horse betting (ahem...Kentucky Derby...ahem ahem), has this not automatically won the dispute between the U.S. and the WTO, whose arbitration follows allegations of discrimination against overseas online poker rooms? Does this not seem like a big fat steaming pile of horse shit to anyone else? Come on, now people.
I urge each and every person who reads this blog to contact your state senators on this issue, and to voice your opinions with the Poker Players Alliance who has sent and entire legal team of their own to oppose the seizure of internet domains. It is an outrage, and we should not take this lying down!
